of san francisco are supporter of the united states military. san francisco fleetwood association is a nonprofit all volunteer organization that was formed to help organize and execute fleet week. and fleet week in 2012 like 2011 and 2010 has adopted a mission to promote the humanitarian assistance and disaster response missions of the united states military. we also, of course, will have the blue angels and the air show that comes with that. the ships will be coming in and the wonderful liberty call that the wonderful men and women in the armed forces will have in san francisco. the fleet week association also, as i say, has a humanitarian and response. along with the civilian disaster response community, we'll have a senior leader seminar taking place on thursday and friday in which the military and the civilian community learn from one another on how to provide disaster response. i should mention that on wednesday morning out at ocean beach, the marine corps and the navy are setting up what's called the shock trauma platoon, a field hospital you and i might think of as a mass unit

commercial development in the bay area and the western united states. and early on it was probably in the '20s because the largest base of population was here. it only made sense that the commercial center was also here. but in the '70s and '80s we made a conscious decision to centralize the business community in san francisco and spent billions of dollars on the bart system and other muni metro and others to be able to bring people into that core. it's one of the extraordinary cores in the united states, perhaps in the whole world, with the amount of square footage in a very limited space, one of the densest around, and it makes it very walkable for people to go from one place to another, to communicate and avail themselves of all the other things that are in the city. but just in terms of the business community, everyone is very close together on a very flat easily transportable surface. i don't know, there is some conjecture years ago about the height limits that were passed in the '80s and original limits on amount of commercial square footage whether or not that led to the advent

comprehensive strategy for the united states since the first epidemic. it has three main health outcome goals, to reduce hiv incidents, to improve health and wellness outcomes for people living with hiv, and to reduce hiv-related disparities. i'm sure that sounds familiar to many of you because that's certainly aligned with many of the san francisco's efforts. the fourth goal is to develop a more comprehensive coordinated response to the epidemic nationally and this is something that we really have been working on at the federal level and also bringing forward the state and local responsibility in terms of how we address this epidemic. and i just want to really acknowledge the mayor's support at the local level, making sure that federal, state and local resources are brought forward to address this epidemic and it is something that we are really committed to as we move forward, continuing to implement the strategy. and we have our work cut out for us. at the entertioner international aids conference in july this year, the cdc reported that only 25% of people living in the united
